The counter electrode resides in a separate PTFE compartment, isolated from other electrodes by a membrane (either ion-exchange or nanoporous), which can be easily replaced by removing a membrane holder fixed against the PTFE compartment. This counter electrode compartment features dedicated inlet and outlet ports for convenient electrolyte filling and gas evacuation. It is also possible to separate the reference electrode using a membrane if it requires protection from the electrolyte in the cell (for example, high pH may dissolve the ceramic frit or glass housing) or if there is a risk of contaminating the surroundings of the electrochemical reaction with electrolyte from the reference electrode (for example, chloride ions). A liquid junction adapter is used for this purpose.\u003cbr\u003eConstructed from inert materials like PTFE, PVDF and other fluoro-polymers, the cell is compatible with both aqueous (FKM O-Rings) and organic solvent (FFKM O-Rings) electrolytes. It ensures a gas-tight seal and is suitable for applications requiring the removal and exclusion of contaminants such as oxygen and water, achieved by bubbling inert gas through the electrolyte.
